Traveling to Santorini with teenagers

Santorini is one of the most popular destinations in the world for couples on honeymoon, engagement trip or just a romantic getaway. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it later in life, when your kids are all grown up and almost adults themselves. I already talked about visiting Santorini with kids in this post, but what about teenagers? Will they have as much fun as you had when you were here on your honeymoon 15(~ish) years ago?

If your teenager loves spending time on the beach or on the water Santorini is the place to be. Take one of the little boats from Akrotiri and visit the Red, White and Black beaches. The natural beauty and unique landscape of each of these beaches will sure remain in your kid’s memory and be one of the highlights of their holiday.

If water sports are something your family is into, I suggest visiting Perivolos beach. Racing jet skis, taking a ride on a banana boat or kayaking are just a few of water activities offered in this well developed south side of the island. If you’re into something more extreme, why not try parasailing. Being dragged behind a motorboat, strapped to a “parachute”, going hundreds of feet up in the air and enjoying Santorini from a bird’s-eye-view is an experience that won’t be easily forgotten.

If you’ve never done water sports but always wanted to try, head over to “Nemely Windsurf – SUP center” near Kamari beach. Their amazing instructors will teach you the basics of windsurfing and help you master balancing on a paddle board in no time.

Of course, if you don’t want to be the captain of your own boat, and would rather have someone else take you around the island on a yacht or a catamaran, why not book a  volcano trip in one of the numerous tourist offices around the island. You and your kid will love the view of the island from the caldera side and swimming in the hot springs of Nea Kameni is a must. Also walking on top of an active volcano will be something to brag about when they get home to their friends.

Do you like horses? Who doesn’t?! Going on a horse ride along the beach during sunset is great fun and a good bonding experience for the whole family. Make sure to take loads of photos or better yet hire a photographer to capture these amazing moments.

Hiring a photographer to take you around the best spots on the island is a great idea for many reasons. Not only will you have memories from your vacation in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, you will also have documented the time spent together. As a family.
