Santorini has a pull like no other place, it has a power
to bring lovers from all over the world to enjoy its magical sunrises and
sunsets over the Caldera while the Aegean Sea waves gently wash the sandy
beaches. And this time I had the honor to meet yet another amazing couple all
the way from Hong Kong.
KiHo & Wynnia came here for a lovely getaway from the
busy city life and found themselves enjoying every second together. I really
could see the love in their eyes as we headed towards our photo locations –
they were so gentle, and so hopelessly in love.
I hope these pictures capture at least a part of the special aura that surrounds and recharges them every day.
Practical tips on how to get the most out of your Santorini off season
Santorini weather is often a mystery – there
are contrasty warm and cold days during off season, and that usually makes
couples pretty confused about what to wear on shoot day. Fear not, here’s some
tips from a Santorini photographer!
Let’s begin with defining the off season – I would say it’s the winter months from December till March. That’s the time when the weather gets a bit more chilly, and you can take advantage of no crowds of tourists to really explore the whole island of Santorini and it’s small villages and streets. Not to mention it makes for beautiful romantic photoshoots!
The main thing to remember is not to rely on stable weather. It’s really so unpredictable that it might be 18 or 4 degrees outside during your trip. So just be ready and bring a warmer layer of clothing for an unpredictable temperature drop. Dressing in layers is a really good idea for this season, because you can easily adapt by just removing a layer of clothing if it gets too hot.
If you’re one of the couples facing a really
cold shoot day, no worries – the weather is still sunny most of the time, so
you can wear your flowy dresses etc., just make sure to take a jacket to wear
in between locations for maximum comfort. And you can always rely on a cup of
hot coffee to get you warm fast ;)
And the last thing to keep in mind is planning. Since the
weather is really fluctuating these days, it is best to plan the time of your
photo session in the beginning of your trip. This way you can always reschedule
if there’s some unpredicted weather change.
Hope this helps, see you in Santorini soon!
Santorini photo sessions in low season with Anna Sulte
couple of couple travel tips for Santorini, Greece
The little island of Santorini in Greece is
the perfect romantic couples getaway. Each year thousands and thousands of
lovers rekindle their love over gazing into the sunsets over the Mediterranean
That being said, there’s a lot of stuff to do
here, and you might quickly be lost, especially if you come for a shorter
period of time. No worries, today we’ll look at some highlights.
You HAVE to see the sunsets. There’s so many spots that light up around the time when the sun goes down and the whole vibe of the island changes. So get out of your hotel, even if you don’t feel like it. :)
Invest in a boat ride. The Santorini boat tours give you a whole new look at the island, especially if you’re feeling like you’ve seen it all already. Plus it is a true adventure for the both of you.
Try and not have a super structured down-to-a-minute schedule. Remember to enjoy the carefree moments in each other’s company. Breathe deeply, enjoy the sun and feel the wind on your skin. Seeing places is nice, but take a look at each other more.
And make sure you capture the memories, these trips will be something to remember and talk about, as life gets a bit too hectic at times. And if you need some help, I know someone, wink wink. But seriously, there are times when a blurry snapshot says more than can be put in words.
This year has been a roller coaster. I got to wake up before sunrise, shoot in crazy winds and say ‘hello’ to the magic of city lights. So fun getting to work with new clients and old. Really really grateful for this journey and a big thank you to anyone who has let me into their life to document all these beautiful moments.
Engagements, proposals, post-wedding and anniversary photo sessions by Anna Sulte, photographer located on the island of Santorini.
Santorini is a place to which all the lovers of the world flock every summer to enjoy some special days on it’s small town and beaches. But some are more rare than others. This time I got the wonderful chance to meet and photograph Nancy and Juan who came all the way from Columbia!
Nancy and Juan have been married for 20 years, but you cannot tell when you meet them – they’re so loving and caring, no sight of this love burning out. They’re full of sense of wanderlust and positive emotions all the way! They had come to the island to celebrate Nancy’s birthday, so we headed out in the lovely streets of Santorini to make some great memories from their trip :)
This is why taking photos is so special, you capture a moment in time of someone’s life – it’s a great rush and great responsibility and I hope I managed to capture at least a part of their special energy.
Chris and Julia came all the way from Atlanta, Georgia to enjoy some of the special Santorini sun. I was honored to find out that they themselves know a thing or two (and more ;) ) about cameras.
That being said, they trusted me completely as we set to climb all things climbable and went off to some of the smaller intimate Santorini streets in search for the golden shot. Now I can honestly admit that I’m a bit afraid of heights but their enthusiasm kept me going :) As I sit and review the shots and how lovely they look, I can’t help to think that it was totally worth it. I mean, look at this lovely couple!
Jetlag has its pluses sometimes. I met this lovely couple even before sunrise. As we walked the empty streets of the busy tourist season Santorini waiting for the magical morning light, I felt that this is going to be a special one.
No daytime heat, no curious bystanders, just the couple. Sadaf and Saad could let go and be themselves and I think it really comes through in the final pictures. I hope their sweet tenderness towards each other comes through at least the slightest bit, they truly have a magical presence.
The other day I met the nicest couple from Singapore – Andy and Christy. From the very first seconds I could see that they share a very special connection. We met up in Oia and head on to Imerovigli.
And oh boy, do they look good together. These two hours flied by in seconds, it was truly a great experience. Here are some shots, I just hope that they do this wonderful couple justice. They have an aura of their own in their presence.
For me it’s always such a joy to meet loving people from other cultures – it teaches me that love is universal and even though we’re so different in the ways we act and experience our cultures, we still all love the same way. Singapore has become this special place for me and I have a deep admiration of their culture.
It’s always heartwarming to hear something back from the couples:
Hello Anna !
Thank you for v being such an amazing photographer and making the shoot so comfortable! We love the photos very much! Thank you! Will def recommend you if any of our friend need any
Last year has brought some new and exciting couples my way again – I feel truly blessed to work with each and every one. This time I met up with Melandi and Sean, a South African girl and Englishman, who have found each other by some divine fate.
On this day we went for the most magnificent sunset over the Santorini roofs. We agreed that we will be looking for more candid shots, and no other request could make me more glad :) In my work I stride to capture those small and true moments and silly things when the couples radiate genuine love and affection.
They were truly a pleasure to be with and I hope these capture at least a small part of the beauty that is this couple and the Santorini sun :)
Thank you for being together with me in this journey. This has been an exciting year both professionally and personally – I have had the chance to meet so many of you from around the world and have learned a lot and enjoyed every second. Doctors, teachers, artists, lawyers, entrepreneurs, you name it – seems like everyone has flocked to this small Greek island. Santorini has been the destination for Japanese, Canadians, Americans, people from virtually all European countries, Brazilians, Swedes, South Africans, Singaporeans and many many more.
You chose me to capture your moments here, for which I am immensely grateful. And I feel that we are more than just a photographer and clients.
I wish you the very best for 2018 and hope to see you here again someday!
Joan and Anthony – a dreamy Santorini photo session
Joan and Anthony is an amazing couple all the way from Vancouver, Canada. Freshly married, young and deeply in love, they came to Santorini for their honeymoon. And boy am I glad they chose this island – amazing couple that radiated love and warmth even in this windy day.
Speaking of wind, we managed to use it to our advantage. These kind of days are the best for dreamy photo shoots. It might have taken more attempts but I feel that the pictures do justice to the dreamy aura that surrounds Joan and Anthony wherever they go.
I’m glad and grateful to have been a part of their story. All the best and hope to see you again soon!
I feel like every time I meet these couples I learn something new. :) This time it was a double date of two best friends – Jennifer and Nina – and their husbands – Michael and Khalil. This whole Santorini photo shoot trip was in great part because Jennifer wanted some photos with her best friend and husband :) And it’s really an honor that they chose me as their photographer.
I hope the images convey at least a part of the huge amounts of love and joy in the air that day. I can honestly say I had a blast.
All the best and hope to see you for some other birthday shoot in future! :)
Best friends photo session in Santorini by photographer Anna Sulte
When you’re in love, you have to do some crazy things. I felt Kerry and Sonny shared this feeling and were ready for something different.
Already upon spending the first minutes with them, I immediately felt like they’re my friends whom I haven’t met for ages. And of course these are the kind of people you can go on an adventure together. Oh, and did I mention that they look gorgeous!?
We went to Imerovigli. This time I was prepared to arrange something different – I was going to get them on some rooftops. Of course there were no guarantees and we just had to get there and see…
I was so happy that it worked! Thank you for a wonderful day, I can honestly say that Kerry and Sonny made me feel just like an island explorer. On top of that, they are seriously one of the most loving couples I have ever met!
Best birthday gift – magical moments in Santorini.
Recently I had the pleasure to meet a couple with a special Santorini arrival story. Raouia and Mouez arrived not only to enjoy the magical Santorini views but also to have a very special birthday photoshoot. They came all the way from France and boy, are they gorgeous or what!?
It seemed like everything just clicked in place as soon as I saw them. Oia village had been long waiting for them. Already in a few minutes I felt like having a leisurely walk with friends. And I think the photos turned out great.
It was also nice to receive this email one late evening while I was doing the edits:
The photos are just GORGEOUS!!! Having the photo session with you was a pure pleasure. Thanks for being very friendly, cool and professional as well.
All I can do is to be grateful for having such amazing people choose me and hope they come back sometime soon. :)
Fun photo shoot
with Santorini photographer Anna Sulte
They came to me through a recommendation from a previous client, which always warms my heart.
SY and Cherie are young and deeply in love, I don’t know if they chose Santorini or Santorini chose them. In this photo session we decided to stay in one village and play around with the visual characters – their clothes, placement and framing – and try to create visually interesting shots that would highlight this wonderful couple and that fuzzy love feeling that is around them.
Thank you for making me a small part of your love journey in Santorini, it was a real pleasure.
