Santorini in 3 Days: Discover Beaches, Culture, and Gastronomy
When vacationing in Greece it’s impossible not to make Santorini one of your destination. It’s a short flight away from Athens and can also be reached by ferry from many of the islands in the Aegean Sea.
While five days is a perfect amount of time to spend on this majestic island, it can also be enjoyed in three days. It will be a perfect way to end your Greek island adventure.
Day 1: Relax, Unwind, and Discover the Caldera Views
Take it slow on Day 1. Give yourself some time to rest from the travel. Breakfast in the hotel and then drive to one of Santorini’s black sand beaches – Kamari or Perissa is a perfect choice. Soak up the sun while listening to the waves and watching planes landing overhead. Enjoy your lunch in one of the many beachfront tavernas. “Almira” in Kamari serves amazing food and they offer sun sunbeds on the beach in front of the restaurant.
In the afternoon take a short walk from Imerovigli to Fira. The route follows the picturesque caldera cliffs with views of whitewashed houses, blue-domed churches, and the Aegean Sea. Wear comfortable shoes as the trail is uneven in places. Take photos of the blue-domed churches along the way. Arrive in Fira and have dinner at “La Skala”. You’ll love the sea food and traditional Greek cuisine and the panoramic sunset views will have you reaching for your camera to take photos of this unforgettable experience.

Day 2: Sunrise in Oia and a Taste of Traditional Santorini
Wake up early on Day 2 and head over to Oia to watch the sunrise without the crowds that fill the town later in the day. Take lots of photos without waiting in lines at the famous three blue domes. Greek yogurt with honey and waffles for breakfast is a must-try at “Vitrin”, a cafe in the heart of Oia with an incredible view.
After Oia, visit the village of Pyrgos. This traditional village is famous for its narrow cobbled streets and panoramic views of the island. Experience the taste of Santorini with authentic dishes like tomatokeftedes (tomato fritters) and fava in “Kantouni” restaurant.
To end the day visit the Akrotiri Lighthouse. It is a secluded spot with stunning sunset views. Bring a blanket and some snacks (like cheese and wine from the local shop).

Day 3: Ancient History and Farewell to the Island
Start Day 3 with a visit to the Museum of Prehistoric Thera dive into Santorini’s ancient past. It houses artifacts from the Minoan civilization, including the Akrotiri frescoes. Or drive to the top of Mesa Vouno for a stroll around the Ancient Thera. Situated on a hill overlooking the sea, it includes ruins of temples and an amphitheater. To conclude the history day make sure to visit Akrotiri archaeological site. This is an ancient Minoan city buried under volcanic ash. Marvel at the preserved houses and pottery.
Enjoy lunch on the beach in Akrotiri. “The Cave of Nikolas” is a fantastic waterfront spot to enjoy fresh octopus and fish, perfectly paired with a glass of local white wine.
If your hotel overlooks the caldera, take in the final sunset from your balcony or terrace as you pack your bags.
As your three-day visit to Santorini comes to an end, the island’s magic will forever stay in your heart. So why not start planning a five-day visit next year to uncover even more of Santorini’s treasures?
